HLTWHS005 Conduct Manual Tasks Safely

This unit covers the skills and knowledge needed to identify hazardous manual tasks and perform them safely. It applies to all workers involved in manual handling and must be carried out in compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and the Hazardous Manual Tasks Code of Practice.

About The Course

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise potentially hazardous manual tasks, and then to prepare for and complete those tasks in a safe manner.

This unit applies to all workers involved in manual handling tasks.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice. The Hazardous manual tasks code of practice applies to this work.

Course Duration

Face to face training and assessment 4 hours and structured self-study is expected to be 12 hours.

Target Group

Target groups for HLTWHS005 Conduct manual tasks safely is anyone who requires training in manual handling tasks and who are required to lift heavy items at work. This may include healthcare workers, industrial workers, hospitality workers and small business owners.

Entry Requirements

Kentford Institute has the following entry requirements:

Students must: 

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs
  • Have sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills, for example, to be able to read the training materials and write assessment tasks. This will be tested through a LLN assessment as part of the course entry process. Students will need to achieve ACSF level 2 for reading, writing, numeracy and oral communication to enter the course.
  • Have sufficient digital literacy skills to use computer, LMS, and digital application including search engine.

Pathways

The HLTWHS005 unit is included in many courses within Training Packages. Therefore, a statement of attainment for these units can be used as credit for a range of courses.
