Complex Bowel Care Support Training

Aligned with the NDIS Practice Standards: High Intensity Support Skills Descriptors, this non-accredited course prepares disability and aged care support workers to safely assist participants with complex bowel care needs. Developed in collaboration with health practitioners and industry experts, the course covers safe practices for following individualised care plans, including the use of equipment, hygiene protocols, documentation, communication, and risk identification. While not a nationally recognised qualification, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion and be better equipped for real-world care responsibilities.

About The Course

Aligned with NDIS Practice Standards: High Intensity Support Skills Descriptors 

This non-accredited course is designed to equip disability and aged care support workers with the essential knowledge and skills to safely support participants requiring complex bowel care. It aligns with the NDIS Practice Standards: High Intensity Support Skills Descriptors and has been designed in consultation with qualified health practitioners and industry professionals.

Participants will learn how to safely follow individualised support plans for bowel care, including understanding equipment, hygiene standards, documentation, communication, and the recognition of risk.

While this training does not result in a nationally recognised qualification, learners who complete the course will receive a Certificate of Completion, and be better prepared to deliver bowel care under supervision or delegation, in line with NDIS expectations.

Course Duration

One-day workshop (6 hours) including theory and practical simulation, Optional refresher or re-assessment recommended annually

Target Group

This course is designed for:

  • Support workers delivering personal care to participants at risk of severe constipation or faecal incontinence
  • Workers supporting participants with conditions such as spinal injury, cerebral palsy (GMFCS 3–5), ABI, stroke, or autism
  • Individuals seeking to increase their readiness for high intensity supports

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

  • Possess basic English literacy and communication skills
  • Be working in, or intending to enter, a care or support role
  • Be willing to participate in practical training and supervised roleplay
