HLTHPS006 Assist Clients with Medication

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to assist with medication administration, support clients in self-administering medication, and complete related documentation. It is intended for community services and health workers authorised to assist with medications, and must be carried out in line with relevant legislation, standards, and industry codes of practice.

About The Course

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and provide medication assistance, and complete medication documentation. It also involves supporting a client to self-administer medication.

This unit applies to community services and health workers with authority in their state or territory to assist with the administration of medication.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Course Duration

Face to face training and assessment 4 hours and structured self-study is expected to be 12 hours.

Target Group

Entry Requirements

Kentford Institute has the following entry requirements:

Students must: 

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs
  • Have sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills, for example, to be able to read the training materials and write assessment tasks. This will be tested through a LLN assessment as part of the course entry process. Students will need to achieve ACSF level 2 for reading, writing, numeracy and oral communication to enter the course.
  • Have sufficient digital literacy skills to use computer, LMS, and digital application including search engine.
